Tips to Make the Most of Your Remodeling Budget

Getting sick of the same ole same ole in your older home? Or maybe you just purchased your first home and don’t have a hefty remodeling budget…we know that remodeling a space in your home means could change the whole feel of your house. Whether it is your kitchen, or as we call it, the heart of the home or your living room, there are solutions everywhere on how to make the most of your budget. Here are some ways we love to stay on track when sticking to a tight budget. First, plan ahead. This is a pretty obvious idea, but we find that some have a tendency to just “do whatever” and there is no quicker way to break the bank than to just be spontaneous with your plans. There is a time and place to be spontaneous, this is not one of them. Having a plan is the best way to approximate your budget. We also suggest keeping a small chunk of your budget to incidentals. With any home project there is bound to be some and it is better to be prepare than blindsided. Our second favorite budget saving secret is reusing what you have. There are so many ways to reuse and recycle what you already own that this could be a great way to save money. You can use old cabinets to make shelving, you can use old paint to add a focal point. When you look at your plans for your remodel you can think about the scrap wood you have left over laying around your house and the ways you can use it. If you are not sure how to reuse some of the things you own, don’t be afraid to Google it for ideas. There are so many designers out there and ideas out there waiting for you! Lastly, don’t be scared to be resourceful in your remodel. Look in your community for good deals and buys. Go to your local Salvation Army or Goodwill. There are also hardware stores that accept reclaimed wood so that you can buy it at a discount price rather than buying new.
