Should You Choose Neutral or Bold Colors for Your Cabinetry?

Bold or neutral? This is quite a loaded question. We have to first think about what you want your home to feel like when you step into it. The kitchen is the heart of the home and is where we all gather to be with each other. We know that the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house, if not the most important. Picking cabinetry can be a make or break situation, not to cause you any undue stress, but it’s true. It sets your home up. One thing to consider is the size of your home and kitchen. If you have a smaller home and a smaller kitchen you might want to go with something light, airy and neutral. You may be wondering why. Well, when you have darker cabinetry in a small home you might feel that your kitchen shrinks in size. You may realize that all of the dark colors make it feel closed off and more cramped. Neutral colors are perfect if you have darker floors in your kitchen. When considering between neutrals and bold colors for your kitchen you should also consider what color your countertops are. If you already have a bold color countertop you don’t want to add another bold color to the cabinetry. The reason for this is to make the space a more calm, welcoming area. You don’t want your kitchen to be too bright and cause stress because of all of the chaotic color. Something else to think about is the flooring in your kitchen. Some more unique kitchens have everything matching, flooring, and cabinetry. This gives it a seamless look and puts it in a class above the rest. But, if you don’t want to go with all matching then you can use your flooring to help you decide cabinetry. A good principle to follow when designing a kitchen is the light, dark, light or dark, light, dark rule. Basically, this means that there should be one opposite the rest. If your floors are light and your countertop is light colored then we recommend looking into to darker cabinetry. This will give you that extra zing to your area.
