Choosing the Right Color for Your Cabinets

Your cabinets have a huge influence on the overall aesthetic and design of your kitchen and bathroom. On a practical level, you want your cabinets to fit in with your needs, as well as contributing to the the style and aesthetic of the space. Color is a huge factor in your decision – so check out some of our suggestions:

Size

As in most decor ventures, the size of the room should inform your color choices. If you have a smaller kitchen or bathroom, opt for lighter shades in order to create the illusion of space. If you’re fortunate to have a larger area to work with, you can experiment with darker shades.

Contrast

Contrast is a great way to create visual appeal in any room – and you can use your cabinets to do so. Choose a color that contrasts with the walls, countertops, or window treatments. A color wheel can help to pair shades perfectly.

Muti-Palette

Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to two colors, building a pleasing color palette with multiple shades can be very effective. We often assume cabinets all have to be the same color, but in reality you can mix and match different colors in order to create a unique space. Pops of color can help create visual interest and add some playful character – even if it’s just a few strategically placed cabinet doors.

Style

Before settling on a color, you should consider the style of your cabinets. Some colors work better with certain designs. More traditional styles are not often seen in bright, eye-catching colors, but instead in neutrals, creams, and dark, dramatic finishes.

Selling?

If you’re planning on selling your home soon, it’s important to allow the buyers the opportunity to treat their potential new home like a blank slate. As such try and stick to neutral and light colors for cabinets ( and decor overall for that matter)
